Apple may launch a new iPad mini, possibly called iPad mini 5, along with a refreshed entry-level 10-inch iPad in 2019.
New reports coming in this week say that Apple may launch a new iPad mini, possibly called iPad mini 5, along with a refreshed entry-level 10-inch iPad in 2019. If true, this would mean we could get the first iPad mini since the fourth generation model came out in 2015.
The latest report comes from China Times, which adds that the iPad mini 5 could go into mass production before the end of December, hinting that Apple may launch the device in Q1 2019. The report stays true to Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo’s report who predicted that Apple will launch a new miniature iPad in late 2018 or early next year.
The iPad mini has not seen a refresh since 2015, leading many to believe Apple had quietly discontinued the line, although the 2015 model continues to be sold in many markets, including India. The iPad mini-series has been a favorite among fans who prefer a compact and low-cost tablet that offer ease of mobility.
It is still unclear what the next iPad mini will bring to the table, but one can expect a new design language that keeps in line with Apple’s current sensibilities. If the company is looking to streamline its products, the iPad mini 5 may get the same bezel-less treatment as the iPad Pro. But as a low-cost product, the iPad mini 5 may not get features like Face ID.
The same is likely true for the entry-level 10-inch iPad, which the report says is also in the works and may launch in the second half of 2019. This iPad may also come without Face ID and next-gen chipset. Rather, Apple will likely give it a redesign from the 9.7-inch model by reducing the bezels to offer a bigger 10-inch display in the same form factor. The report suggests the price of the 10-inch iPad will be similar to the 9.7-inch model at $329 (approx Rs 23,000
