What is Facial recognition system?
Facial recognition system is a technology capable of identifying and verifying a person from a digital image and video frame from a video source. There are multiple methods in which facial recognition systems work but in general, they work by comparing selected facial features from given image with faces within a database. It is also described as a Biometric Artificial Intelligence-based application that can uniquely identify a person by analyzing patterns based on the person’s facial textures and shape. The software uses deep learning algorithms to compare a live capture or digital image to the stored faceprint in order to verify an individual’s identity.
Application of Facial recognition system.
1. Social media
Social media platforms have adopted facial recognition capabilities to diversify their functionalities in order to attract a wider user base variant stiff competition from different applications. The system is said to be 97% accurate, compared to 85% for the FBI’s Next Generation Identification system.
2. ID verification
An Emerging use of Facial recognition is in the use of ID verification services. Many companies are working in the market now to provide these services to banks, ICO, and other e-businesses. Some of the tech companies already using this technology.
3. National security
The U.S. Department of State operates one of the largest face recognition systems in the world with a database of 115 million American adults, with photos typically drawn from driver’s license photos. China has deployed facial recognition technology in Xinjiang. Reporters visiting the region found surveillance cameras installed every hundred meters or so in several cities, as well as facial recognition checkpoints at areas like gas stations, shopping centers, and mosque entrances
3. Crime prevention
Police are searching for a man believed to have committed a violent crime. To find him, they feed a photograph into a video surveillance network powered by artificial intelligence. A camera, one of the thousands, scans the street, instantly analyzing the faces of everyone it sees. The algorithms found a match with someone in the crowd. Officers rush to the scene and take him into custody.
4. Unlock tech gadgets
You can unlock any tech gadgets by face and you know this is possible through the facial recognition. The mobile phone is a great example of facial recognition use by now a day.
5. Track attendance
Make schools safer, facial recognition has the potential to track students attendance. Traditionally, attendance sheets can allow students to sign another student. But China is already using face recognition to ensure students are not skipping class. Tablets are being used to scan students faces and match their photos against a database to validate their identities.
6. Make travel more convenient
Airlines and railways have already started using facial recognition to help people check bags, check into flights and board planes faster. It seems like we are quickly moving toward a future in which air travel is not only safer than ever before but also more convenient than any period in history, the same in railways.
Machine learning is being combined with computer vision to more accurately track patient medication consumption and support pain management procedures.
8. Fraud detection
Fraud detection through facial recognition in ATM and bank, now a day fraud in atm, bank, and companies became normal but through facial recognition, fraud can be detected.
There is a lot of use of facial recognition but this is a major application of Facial recognition system. Future world will be based on a facial recognition system and artificial intelligence.
