OnePlus 6T vs OnePlus 6 – Display

One of the major differences between the OnePlus 6T and 6 is the display. OnePlus has redesigned the notch drastically, making it smaller and better looking on the 6T. Thanks to this, the OnePlus 6T has a higher screen-to-body ratio at 85.6% when compared to the OnePlus 6’s 83.8%. This essentially means that the OnePlus 6T has a bigger 6.41-inch display as against the 6.28-inch display on the 6.

Another important difference apart from the screen size is the aspect ratio. The OnePlus 6T has a screen resolution of 2340 x 1080 pixels, resulting in an aspect ratio of 19.5:9. The OnePlus 6 has a screen resolution of 2280 x 1080 pixels, resulting in an aspect ratio of 19:9. In other words, the 6T is slightly taller when compared to the 6.

OnePlus is also using Gorilla Glass 6 to protect the OnePlus 6T’s display, while the OnePlus 6 has Gorilla Glass 5. While the scratch resistance of both the versions of Gorilla Glass is same, Gorilla Glass 6 can survive multiple drops from higher heights.

OnePlus 6T vs OnePlus 6 – Bigger battery, similar specs

OnePlus has kept the spec-sheet pretty much the same for the OnePlus 6T when you compare it to the 6. Both pack a Snapdragon 845, 6/8GB RAM, USB-C Fast Charge and lack expandable storage. The base 64GB option has been ditched though, so 128GB is the new default.

The camera remains the same, too. One 16-megapixel f/1.7 and one 20-megapixel camera sit on the back (the second helps the portrait mode) and while these aren’t the finest shooters around, a couple of software updates have made them better over time. OnePlus has also added a dedicated low-light mode.

This means things like Qi charging (a feature found in more and more high-end Android phones) and an official IP-rating are still nowhere to be found. Maybe we’ll those additions, along with 5G, for the OnePlus 7 when that likely debuts sometime in 2019.

You do, however, get a larger 3700 mAh battery which is up from the 6’s 3300 mAh. It’s a nice bump that gives the phone some extra endurance.

Both phones use Android 9 Pie, with a smattering of OnePlus tweaks. There’s a bit more customisability with user-selected icons and a ‘Shelf’ for storing apps, shortcuts, and widgets.

OnePlus 6T vs OnePlus 6 –  fingerprint sensors

other major difference between the OnePlus 6T and OnePlus 6 is the fingerprint sensor. The OnePlus 6T features an in-display fingerprint sensor, which is a first for the company. This makes the OnePlus 6T one of the first few smartphones to use this technology. However, given that this tech is still new, the sensor can be a little slower when compared to the traditional ones.

Since the fingerprint sensor is built into the display, OnePlus has added the ability to set app shortcuts to launch apps quickly.
